Homemade Flowers and Hand Died Ribbons at Our Creative Corner - the July Challenge

Servus and welcome back to my creative corner located near the lovely Alps!

It's time for a new challenge over at Our Creative Corner and this month it is hosted by lovely Astrid from Astrid's Artistic Efforts!

She wants to see

"Hand died ribbon and homemade flowers"

used with your creations - so let's see some "flower power" embellished with some died ribbon! ;)

As I am not much of a flower girl as most of you will already know, Astrid has put up a real challenge for me! But I decided to stand up to it and try walk in the footsteps of  wonderful Julia from Julia's Stuff (the "Mistress of the Crackle" as I love to call her) and give some of her crackle and embossing techniques she uses with flowers so brilliantly a try. I altered a small splint box to create a birthday gift for a very dear friend of mine.

The linen ribbon was first died with Distress ink "walnut stain" and then given a wash with DecoArt media fluid acrylic "Interference Gold" to add a subtle sheen.

The flower on top was made from some scraps done with the "Wrinkle Free Distress technique" from Tim Holtz, using the Tattered Florals Sizzix die.

I blended the edges of the cut out flowers with DI "walnut stain" using the mini ink blending tool (which is perfect for colouring edges of more detailed die cuts). Then I gave the flowers a coat of DecoArt's new and fantastic "Crackle Glaze" and rubbed in some DecoArt Black Carbon Antiquing Creme to make the cracks more visible.

I also added some Stampendous Fran-tage embossing enamel "Aged Gold" and "Aged Teal" to some of the flowers leaves.

The splint box was painted with DecoArt Traditions "Raw Umber",  "Weathered Wood" and a mix of "Teal" and "Zink" Americana acrylic colours. After that had dried I also added a wash of diluted "Interference Gold".

The flower was assembled and fixed to the boxes lid with some rough thin cord and a glass bead of matching colour.

I hope you like my tiny keepsake with a lot of crackle, shine and bling on it ;)
I would love to see your home made flowers and died ribbon makes entered to Our Creative Corner's challenge! I find it always exciting and amazing to see all the different wonderful ideas and creations you come up with! And be prepared find a true flowers gallore over at our challenge blog as my fab teamies have truly embraced this challenge and given their very best again!

There is also a prize to win (by entering a proper make to this month's challenge collection) - this month it is sponsored by Nicecrane Designs!

Hugs and happy crafting,
Claudia xx

  4. Mistress of the Crackle here!! Er, WOW! You have certainly made a beautiful flower here Claudia. I LOVE the colours and the crackled, grungy finishing is superb. Did you notice we both used the same EP on the edges of our flowers? Must be great minds think alike! Strangely, I nearly used a round box too. A gorgeous make for a 'non-flower girl'. xx
