Time to show my creation for this month's challenge over at SanDee&amelie's Steampunk Challenges, where we have all sorts of crafts, a monthly prize to give away to one of our players, inspiring guest designers and a lot of steampunkery going on.
This month we want you to play with all the possibilities of
Transparency!
That means you can use transparent or semi-transparent materials, transparent objects to alter...or even make "transparency" the main theme of your creation.
I recently stumbled upon a pop up card box over at Shelly Hickox' blog and fell in love with the idea and design immediately. There's a great tutorial on how to make one of these over HERE.
I used the template to create a birthday card for a very dear friend who loves everything vintage and steampunk too and I also borrowed some of the fabulous ideas Shelly had (the pediment and the clock key for example).
The really cool thing of this design is that it folds flat to fit with an envelope so it can be mailed and the adressant can fold it up to its full beauty ;)
I used some die cut gears, pediments, frames and flourishes on my creation. Some images I stamped and then cut them out by hand.
The zeppelin and balloon were glued to two thin strips of transparent acetate to let them "fly".
I die cut "Alles Gute" using one of the Tim Holtz Sizzix alphabet strip dies, glued the letters to the front and gave them a rub with DecoArt Metallic Lustre "Gold Rush". The die cut clock key and flourish were given the same treatment.
I am sure this won't stay my last pop up box card as it was so much fun doing this one!
Please, hop over to our challenge blog and have a look at the stunning makes from our (partially new) design team and guest designer! You will find a lot of awesome inspiration there - promise! If you want to know what's going on over at Our Creative Corner's challenge, please, scroll down to the previous post (remember: 1st of each month is double feature day over here ;).
Hugs and happy crafting,

ReplyDeleteAmazing Claudia! I love the steampunk edge. I keep wanting to try this
ReplyDeleteClaudia, this pop up card is stunning! I love every element you have added, there is so much to see, I think your friend is going to love this. I made a few of these for the Grandkids at Halloween and they thought it was like magic, it is such a clever design. Anne xxx

ReplyDeleteIt’s so wonderful to visiting you Claudia…I am always surprised and amazed...with my mouth open looking at your creative piece! Fabulous!
Manu
